The Silence That is Not a Rest - live broadcast

14 Oct 2018 - 16:09

The Silence that is not a Rest* This is a live radio version of the performance lecture which took place on 24 June 2018 as part of the exhibition Hearing Now. * Taken from the title of a chapter in Christina Scharff's new book Gender, Subjectivity and Cultural Work: The Classical Music Profession, this multimedia performance follows the theme of women in music making and what it means to make sound and be heard. It will reflect on how women musicians work with(in) structural and institutional limitations and discriminatory attitudes towards their work and how to challenge existing notions of the canon. We will think about questions such as who gets heard and how do we listen? Rosanna Lovell's piece will be followed by a conversation around these themes where audience members will also be invited to share their thoughts and responses to the different components of the exhibition. picture - Suzanne Ciani in action
